He was too far gone at that point, he's convinced himself that all he has left to live for is his hatred and Ulthuan. Caledorians are also notably a bunch of overly smug assholes just like Caledor II.
To this day High Elves, especially those from Caledor, and Dwarfs hate each other. This caused an all out war between the High Elves and Dwarfs that became on of the bloodiest conflicts in history, all because Caledor II was a fucking dick. Instead of going over the facts and realizing that Malekithcwas behind it, Caledor II was a royal fucking dickbag who insulted the Dwarfs and had their beards shaved off (one of the single greatest insults to Dwarfs, considered to be an utterly obscene and unforgiveable offense) and sent them home. Malekith, wanting to cause some political friction, had some Dark Elves dress up like High Elves and raid a Dwarf caravan, killing a few.This caused an international incident that led to Dwarf diplomats meeting with Caledor II to discuss repayment. Caledor II was a pompous fucking windbag who thought he was the best guy ever because his dad was the Caledor who was buddies with Aenarion and who played a major role in stopping the huge Chaos invasion. So back after Malekith started a civil war on Ulthuan, the High Elves crowned a new Phoenox Kinf Caledor II.
